ARTICLE: Facebook's Daily Active Usage Has Stalled in the US - A Sign of Concern for The Social Network?

Facebook was born in 2004 and quickly grew in popularity. It set the blueprint for what and how we know social media to this day.

What is the old cliche? All good things must come to an end?

I'm not suggesting Facebook is done. But in its latest annual report, there is a worrisome trend that is worth paying attention to.

According to its report, while the total active users continues to rise, the daily active users trend is going down.

In the report, after the second quarter of 2020, there were 198 million active users in the U.S. and Canada. After the fourth quarter of 2020, there were 195 million active users (about 1.5% decrease).

While not directly cited, it could be attributed to racial/social injustice, COVID-19 pandemic and the election. The end of the second quarter 2020, that's June, which is one month after George Floyd dies in Minneapolis. We're also fourth months into the pandemic and political campaigns, specifically U.S. president, are ramping up.

In general, the report was favorable. The daily active users data doesn't quite mean it's time to hit the panic button. But, again, it's worth keeping an eye on.
