TikTok unveils upgrades, TikTok Resumes

Source: newsroom.tiktok.com

Now fully immersed as a social media leader, TikTok has unveiled new tools to its platform as it continues to grow and solidify its place at the top of the social media universe.

Rolled out this week was a pilot program called "TikTok Resumes." This allows content creators or users to upload short videos of themselves talking about their experience, skills, etc. Essentially, it's a video resume.

"With the rise of career and job-related creative content, TikTok believes there's an opportunity to bring more value to people's experience with TikTok by enhancing the utility of the platform as a channel for recruitment," according to a blog post on the company's website. "Short, creative videos, combined with TikTok's easy-to-use, built-in creation tools have organically created new ways to discover talented candidates and career opportunities."

TikTok said it's partnering with select companies and inviting job seekers to apply for entry-level to experienced positions at employers such as Chipotle, Target, WWE and Shopify.

"Interested candidates are encouraged to creatively and authentically showcase their skillsets and experiences, and use #TikTokResumes in their caption when publishing their video resume to TikTok," the blog post says.

According to theverge.com, TikTok Resumes is a temporary program to test its popularity. The test goes through July 31.

TikTok introducing longer video capabilities

The company is, to a test audience, longer video upload capabilities, up to three minutes in length. Currently, users can upload videos from 15 to 60 seconds.

"Creative expression brings people together," according to a blog post on the company's website. "It's how we connect with our communities. It's how we entertain, educate, inform, and inspire each other. This is also why we've focused on providing our community with a range of tools to help unleash their creativity – longer videos are now one more tool people can use to captivate the community with their creative expression."

The post also says, "With all the ways our community has redefined expression in under 60 seconds, we’re excited to see how people continue to entertain and inspire with a few more seconds – and a world of creative possibilities."

Desktop site unveiled

For the most part, especially the early days of the app, videos could only be uploaded to TikTok via the mobile app. That's not the case anymore.

Users can now upload content to TikTok from a desktop computer.

One of the distinct features of TikTok from a desktop computer is the ability to allow users to schedule posts or videos.

The site is www.tiktok.com.

Finding out internet trends

Currently, I'm going through a certification webinar about social media, and it mentioned a phrase that is good to have in the back pocket: riding the hashtag.

Riding the hashtag is using set or popular hashtags in posts in order to help raise awareness for your company/organization. Examples include #throwbackthursday or #flashbackfriday. These are well-established hashtags known by the general public. Therefore, audience reach potential is increased.

Creating your own hashtag and hoping it'll go viral is, in a lot of ways, wishful and unrealistic thinking. Sure, it can happen. But it's rare. If you want to do that, you have to be adamant, consistent and aggressive with it. Even then it may not take off.

So how do you know what's trending or going viral?

Google has a program called Google Trends (more on it here). It is "a website by Google that analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages. The website uses graphs to compare the search volume of different queries over time."

Keeping up on trends and what's going viral can help you create brand awareness, especially if a trending topic has correlation to your company or organization.
