Key social media event coming up with Super Bowl

As marketers know, getting in front of an audience is one of the toughest things to do. Doing so organically is tougher. But there are ways to get through that. And one of them has to do with what is happens Sunday.

On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will play in Super Bowl LV.

According to a survey done by Influencer Central in 2017, 78 percent of social media users engage on social media during the Super Bowl, especially the halftime show, which this year features The Weeknd.

The report continues:

  • 38% want to share their thoughts on the commercials.
  • 32% want to react to the game.
  • 18% want to share photos of game-day parties.
  • 10% want to see what their network is doing.
  • 2% want to share strategy about the game.
A 2017 article by techrepublic.com said:

"The Super Bowl (LII) matchup between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles made history, with data usage breaking records for the fifth year in a row, with fans consuming 16.31 terabytes of data over Wi-Fi, according to Extreme Networks, the Official Wi-Fi Solutions Provider of the NFL."

Using hashtags such as #superbowl #superbowl55 #superbowllv will certainly be trending during the Super Bowl, which kicks off at approximately 6:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS. That 3 1/2-hour window will be buzzing on social media (Facebook and Twitter specifically) because of the game.

And again, the halftime show is another prime opportunity, using hashtags like #superbowlhalftime #superbowlhalftimeshow #halftimeshow #pepsihalftimeshow will likely be trending.
