RICHFIELD, Wis. - Richfield native Josh Bilicki has signed on to race in his second full season with the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In 2019, Bilicki will race for RSS Racing - Ryan Sieg Racing.
According to the announcement posted on Bilicki's website, "Dr. Squatch Soap Co. will sponsor Josh at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 16, the opening race of the 2019 season. Bilicki, 23, returns to the Xfinity Series after completing his first full season in 2018. In total, Bilicki has 38 Xfinity Series starts and three Monster Energy Cup Series starts."
In 2018, Bilicki started in 29 of the Xfinity Series' 33 races for JP Motorsports. His best finish was a pair of 20th-place showings at Mid-Ohio and Kansas. His average finish was 30.4. However, he endured a 12-race stretch that saw his race ended seven times because of some kind of mechanical failure.
In August at his home course at Elkhart Lake's Road America, Bilicki was on the cusp of a strong top-20 showing until a mechanical failure heading into Turn 12 - Canada Corner - sent him nearly full speed into the tire barriers. He wound up finishing 30th after a season-best 25th-place starting position.
Bilicki has made 38 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts since 2016 debut at Road America with Obiaka Racing. His best finish is 12th at Road America in 2017 with BJ McLeod Racing. He's also made three Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts.
According to the announcement, Bilicki will drive the No. 38 Chevrolet Camaro for RSS and joins teammates Ryan Sieg in the No. 39 Camaro and Jeff Green, the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series Champion, in the No. 93 Camaro. The No. 38 was most recently driven by J.J. Yeley in the 2018 Xfinity Season. R.S.S. Racing has two third-place finishes at Daytona and a career best finish of second, coming in Iowa in 2017. R.S.S. Racing has competed in NASCAR since 2009 and is headquartered in Sugar Hill, Georgia.
The 2019 Xfinity Series season starts Saturday at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Bilicki failed to qualify for last year's season opener with JP Motorsports. He finished 40th in the series' return trip in July. His race was cut short after 33 of 105 laps because of an engine failure.
