AARWBA Announces Annual Contest Winners

Indianapolis, IN - The American Auto Racing Writing and Broadcasters Association held their annual awards ceremony May 25th and announced the winners in each media category.
AARWBA hosted the event at the Brickyard Crossing golf course the morning prior to the 97th Indianapolis 500. Paul Page served as Master of Ceremonies for the
breakfast meeting that included representatives from Honda and
Firestone, as well as appearances from Don Prudhomme and starter for the
next day’s 500 Pippa Mann.
Bob Gaines won first place in the Motorsports Book category for “California Gold: The Legendary Life of Troy Ruttman.”
Newspaper Writing’s first place winners were Michael Knight of the Arizona Republic in the News category for “Wreckin’ and Fightin”, Nicholas Dettmann of the West Bend Daily News in the Feature Writing category for “West Bend Native Anxious For Event Honoring Mentor”, Scott Walsh of the Scranton Sunday Times
in the Column category for “Mattioli Relishes Family, Hot Dogs”, and
Walsh again in Technical Writing for “Fuel System Makes Pocono Track
Debut.”
Magazine Writing’s category winners were Vintage Motorsport’s Burt Levy for Event Reporting with “Aging Innocents Attempt Autosport Everest”, Hemmings Muscle Machines’ Jim Donnelly for Feature Writing with “Effort Equals Results”, Goodguys Gazette’s Louise Noeth for Column Writing with “From the Demonizers to Humanizers”, and Speedway Illustrated’s Bruce Bennett for Technical Writing with “Prep School.”
The Online category winners were Patrick Reynolds of Motorweeklive.com for News Writing with “Franchitti Claims Third Indianapolis 500”,
Kay Presto of Carsandcompetition.com for Feature Writing with “Mike
Neff- Wearing Two Hats” and Technical Writing with “A Continued Search
For Safety In Racing”, Michael Knight of Compettionpress.com for Column
Writing with “Oh, What Might Have Been”, Bruce Bennett of Techbriefs.com
for Web Log Entry with “Fantasy Camp For Engineers”, Dick Sisich of
Racesonoma.com for the Podcast Category with “Conversation With Rubens
Barrichello” and the Professional Racing Website winner was

Winners in the photography category were Bruce Bennett in Print Action with “Not Pleased to Meet You” from Speedway Illustrated, Louise Ann Noeth in Print People with “Missoula Mile Man” from China Auto Pictorial,
Michael C. Johnson in Online Action With “Chili Bowl Leap Frog” from
Motorsport.com, and Joe McHugh in Online People with “Antron’s Focus”
from Dragracingonline.com.
